Friday Night was a special night for New York sports legend Henrik Lundqvist. - The former New York Rangers goal tender who they call “the King,” had his number retired and raised to the rafters at Madison Square Garden. - A few former New York Giants joined the Rangers and New York community to congratulate Lundqvist on his number retirement. - - Henrik, I have so many favorite memories of you that it's hard to name just one. You're the first jersey I ever owned – fitting for the best goalie in the league. - – @JustinTuck | #30Forever pic.twitter.com/HOiYcu163C - — New York Rangers (@NYRangers) January 28, 2022 - - - “Henrik, congratulations. I know every time we do types of things, everyone wants to know like your favorite memory but you had so many, you were the first jersey I ever wore as a Ranger fan. I just commend you for years of being the best goalie in the league and all the flowers people give you right now are well deserved. God Bless,” Tuck said. - Tuck is notoriously known as a huge Rangers fan and is frequently in attendance for many Ranger and New York Knicks games at the Garden, especially since his retirement from the NFL. - In fact, Tuck is so well-known for being a Rangers fan, he was on the MSG broadcast Friday night ahead of ceremony to talk about The King. He talked more about his first Ranger jersey being a Lundqvist jersey and discussed how emotional the night would be for the Rangers’ former goal tender. - - 2x @Giants Super Bowl Champion Justin Tuck on the odds of Henrik shedding some tears tonight pic.twitter.com/dNjPqNdS9u - — Rangers on MSG (@RangersMSGN) January 28, 2022 - - - “If there’s a bet out there for how many tears Henrik is going to shed tonight, take the over. It shows how much he loves this city and how much he loves what all of us have meant to him and I think you’ll see that come out of him,” Tuck said. - Eli Manning also congratulated the long-time Ranger. - - There's no one more deserving of this honor than you, Henrik. You are ??? ??? (and still have the best hair of all). - – @EliManning | #30Forever pic.twitter.com/gbVX6BSud5 - — New York Rangers (@NYRangers) January 28, 2022 - - - “Hey, Henrik. Eli Manning here. Just want to congratulate you on your jersey retirement from the New York Rangers. There’s not a better person more deserving to get there jersey retired than you,” Manning said. “What an unbelievable career in New York as the goalie, as the leader.” - Manning, like Lundqvist, had his number retired this past season. While the two are now etched in the history of New York sports, Manning may be the bigger legend strictly for bringing two championships to New York. - Although, Lundqvist is likely the better player at his position in terms of all-time rankings, Manning spent his entire career with the Giants. While Lundqvist never played another game in another uniform, had it not been for injury, he would have played for the Washington Capitals last season and potentially beyond. - Lundqvist was also recently a guest on The Eli Manning Show where the two New York legends went head-to-head in air hockey — Lundqvist edged out Manning winning the best out of three series. - Follow the Giants Wire Podcast: - Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Google Podcasts - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Giants Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Giants Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
