What are the New York Giants getting in their new head coach Brian Daboll? A down to earth guy who doesn’t “forget where he comes from.” - While serving in his previous job as the offensive coordinator of the Buffalo Bills, Daboll put his coaches and players through a humbling exercise by asking everyone to stand and then sit if they have ever been cut, traded or fired. - Daboll then asked any player not drafted in the first round to sit. That left star quarterback Josh Allen as the only one standing. - Daboll asked Allen how many scholarship offers he got coming out of high school. Allen said he received none. - “All right,” Daboll said. “Let’s all remember where we came from.” - Daboll has been coaching in the NFL since 2000 when he was hired as defensive assistant by Bill Belichick in New England. - “He lent me a car for my first six months,”  Daboll said of Belichick, per Ian O’Connor of the New York Post, “just so I could get around in 2000, when I had absolutely nothing and was just grinding away.” - And Daboll has been grinding away ever since. His ascent has been slow and well-earned. His NFL odyssey includes two stints in New England, where he held various roles, the Jets’ quarterback coach and the offensive coordinator in Cleveland, Miami, Kansas City and Buffalo with a year at Alabama thrown in. - - List - - Giants hire Brian Daboll: 10 things to know about the newest head coach - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Giants Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Giants Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
