New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen, who was hired earlier this week, looks like he just stepped off a college campus — as a student. His youthful appearance throws people off and draws them to the conclusion that he’s a little too green to be running an NFL team. - Don’t be fooled. Schoen has loads of experience — two decades worth mind you — in the world of NFL front offices and scouting rooms. - One of Schoen’s stops was in Miami in the late 2000s as a national scout where his boss was a face very familiar one in Bill Parcells. Schoen would not be where he is today had he not worked under Parcells for those two seasons. - When Schoen took the Giants’ job last week, he detailed how important his time with Parcells was and shared several stories. He also revealed that the former two-time Super Bowl-winning coach is still a Giant at heart. - “Coach Parcells was integral in my career and development, and he still cares dearly about the New York Giants,” Schoen said in a recent interview. - “You can hear it in his voice. He was excited for me to get this job, but he also told me this franchise is still near and dear to his heart. Not only do you have the weight of the fans, you want to do what’s right for the Mara and Tisch families, you want to get the organization back to where it should be, but also coach Parcells. I want to do well for him, too. That’s obviously motivation to get this thing going in the right direction.” - If Schoen can duplicate what he did in up in Buffalo down here in New York, he’ll not only make millions of Giant fans happy, but it will give Parcells a sense of pride as well. - Follow the Giants Wire Podcast: - Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Google Podcasts - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Giants Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Giants Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
