The New York Giants are in need of a new running backs coach following word that Burton Burns intends to retire. And one such option appeared to be former Kansas City Chiefs assistant Deland McCullough. - Ultimately however, McCullough rebuffed the Giants and will instead remain with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in 2022. - In turning down the Giants, McCullough also turned down a very lucrative deal. In fact, Bruce Feldman of The Athletic reports the deal would have made McCullough one of the highest-paid running backs coaches in the NFL. - - SOURCE: Deland McCullough had an opportunity to become a top-paid RB coach in the NFL w/ the Giants, and working with Brian Daboll was tempting but he's staying at Notre Dame. He came back to college to position himself to be a head coach and believes success at ND will do that. - — Bruce Feldman (@BruceFeldmanCFB) February 6, 2022 - - - General manager Joe Schoen did say that he was promised all the resources necessary to build a coaching staff, and apparently both John Mara and Steve Tisch have stayed true to their word. - Unfortunately for the Giants, it wasn’t enough to sway McCullough to leave South Bend, where he was hired at the end of January. - With McCullough now sticking around at Notre Dame, the Giants head back to the drawing board as their search for assistants to fill out Brian Daboll’s staff continues. - Follow the Giants Wire Podcast: - Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Google Podcasts - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Giants Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Giants Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
