Brandon Marshall was one of the best — and most outspoken — players in the NFL during his 13-year career. He learned and taught many lessons along the way. - In 2017, he played for the New York Giants and faced embattled second-year cornerback Eli Apple in practice every day and tried to school the incorrigible Apple. - Marshall is now a panelist on Showtime’s Inside the NFL and gave some insight into his time playing with and against Apple after the Cincinnati Bengals cornerback was beaten for the game-deciding touchdown in Super Bowl LVI. - “Do you know how many times I practiced against Eli Apple and said, ‘Bro, going against a number one receiver, if you give us the outside release, it’s the easiest thing in the world.’ I used to argue with him every single day playing with the Giants like, ‘Man, I’m trying to help you,'” Marshall said, via Art Stapleton of USA TODAY. - “This is a history lesson on humility. Keep your mouth shut, play ball. Then you go to the Super Bowl and you have a couple of penalties, give up a couple touchdowns. You can’t do that. You need to listen to the vets. So all the other young people watching — learn from Eli Apple.” - Apple has been a controversial figure in the NFL since the Giants drafted him No. 10 overall in 2016. He has since been more active on social media than he has been on the field, making a habit of trashing his old teams. - Apple’s mother, Annie, has also joined in the fray, sparring with the media and promoting her ‘brand’ as her son becomes more and more known for his failures than his successes. - Follow the Giants Wire Podcast: - Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Google Podcasts - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Giants Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Giants Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
