When the New York Giants signed Logan Ryan in September of 2020, they weren’t entirely sure what they were getting. - Ryan was a late addition to the team, he was switching from cornerback to safety and was coming off a down season with the Tennessee Titans. But like a fish to water, Ryan took to all of it and was eventually named a defensive captain. - However, 2022 will once again breed change for the Giants. General manager Dave Gettleman, head coach Joe Judge and much of his staff are out. Joe Schoen, Brandon Brown and Brian Daboll are in. - So, what does it all mean for Ryan and his future in East Rutherford? That’s tricky. - Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports that some in the front office feel it’s time to move on from Ryan, but not everyone agrees. - There are some people in the Giants’ front office that want to move on from the veteran safety, the Daily News has learned. But Ryan, who turned 31 on Feb. 9, is a critical leader and contributor. - . . . - No one has delivered Ryan any bad news yet, to The News’ knowledge. It wouldn’t hurt if new defensive coordinator Don “Wink” Martindale went to bat for Ryan, though. He provides significant value on and off the field. - The Giants are short on both talent and leadership, so thinning out the safety position and removing a team captain may not be the best decision. However, the team is also extremely short on salary cap space and leadership aside, Ryan did not play particularly well in 2021. - In 15 games, Ryan recorded the lowest Pro Football Focus grade (60.4) of his career. He also allowed 81.4% of all targets in his direction to be caught, surrendering three touchdowns in the process. His 10 missed tackles didn’t help, either. - Ryan has a $9.25 million base salary owed to him in 2022, accounting for a total cap hit of $12.225 million. Of that, $5.5 million is already guaranteed and another $3 million will become fully guaranteed on March 19. - Needless to say, if the Giants are going to move on from Ryan, they will have to do it soon. - - List - - PFF lists 4 Giants among top 200 impending free agents - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Giants Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Giants Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
