Feb 27, 2022

The 2022 NFL Combine will get underway on March 1 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana. That means the NFL draft is just around the corner and mock draft production has reached fevered pitch. - Our friend Luke Easterling over at Draft Wire released his final pre-combine mock on Friday and in it, the New York Giants do a great job of adding both quality and quantity. - At No. 5 overall, Easterling has the Giants going with a very familiar face: NC State offensive lineman Ikem Ekwonu. - If Brian Daboll is going to work any magic with Daniel Jones like he did with Josh Allen, the offensive line needs huge improvements. Drafting Ekwonu would be a big step in the right direction, adding a pro-ready blocker who earned all-conference honors at both guard and tackle. - Two picks later, the Giants address one of their defensive needs. And they do so with a name that hasn’t been as frequently mocked to the Giants: Florida State edge rusher Jermaine Johnson II. - After addressing the offensive trenches with their first selection, the Giants use their additional top-10 pick to land an impact player for their defensive front. Johnson was dominant during Senior Bowl week, and has all the physical tools to cement himself as a top-10 pick. - A solid 1-2 punch for the Giants in Round 1. - Over the next two rounds, Easterling has the Giants adding the following talent: - 36. New York Giants | Georgia LB Quay Walker - 67. New York Giants | Georgia OL Jamaree Salyer - 81. New York Giants (from MIA) | Coastal Carolina TE Isaiah Likely - Arguably, this is one of the better mocks of the year for New York. Most have them going off script and getting cute with safeties, cornerbacks and wide receivers, but Easterling’s pre-combine mock has them staying focused and addressing their most dire areas of need. - - RelatedPat Fitzgerald thinks Mike Kafka can fix Giants' broken offenseBill Barnwell: Giants must decline Daniel Jones' fifth-year optionDaniel Jeremiah: Ikem Ekwonu would be 'slam dunk' pick for Giants - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Giants Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Giants Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
