- - - New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen told reporters on Tuesday at the NFL Combine that salary cap cuts would begin soon. And as it turns out, he wasn’t kidding. - Veteran tight end Kyle Rudolph revealed on Wednesday that his time with the Giants is over, thanking the organization and its owners on Twitter. - - Thanks to everyone in the building who took in and helped this old guy who needed to relearn everything about a new organization.. Finally my teammates, in my 11 years in this league I'm not sure I've been around a closer group of guys! - — Kyle Rudolph (@KyleRudolph) March 2, 2022 - - - The release of Rudolph was widely expected given Schoen’s desire to clear upwards of $40 million in salary cap space this offseason. - Rudolph agreed to a two-year, $12 million deal last offseason that nearly fell apart after a physical revealed a foot injury requiring surgery. But the Giants stayed true to their handshake agreement and kept Rudolph on that contract. - With less than a month remaining in the 2021 regular season, the Giants were so cash-strapped that they were forced to restructure Rudolph’s deal in an effort to save just $158,000. As a result of those decisions, the current release of Rudolph will cost the Giants $2.4 million in dead cap while saving them just $5 million. - In 16 games (13 starts) with the Giants, Rudolph hauled in 26 receptions for 257 yards and one touchdown. All numbers were near career lows for the 32-year-old. - Will Browns sign Kyle Rudolph? - Powered By PickUp - - RelatedGiants' Joe Schoen, Brian Daboll know extensive O-Line rebuild is necessaryGiants' Joe Schoen, Brian Daboll decline to address Brian Flores lawsuitMel Kiper Jr. says Giants should '100 percent' stick with Daniel Jones - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Giants Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Giants Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
