The New York Giants have reportedly asked wide receiver Sterling Shepard to take a pay cut — something he’s receptive to — but he won’t be the only one. - In news that’s far from shocking, Zack Rosenblatt of NJ Advance Media reports that the Giants intend to request several players take pay cuts. - Among them will be linebacker Blake Martinez. - Shepard isn’t the only player the Giants asked to take a pay-cut. Buzz around Indianapolis was that the Giants might also ask linebacker Blake Martinez ($14.02 million cap hit in 2022) to take a pay cut to stick around. Martinez tore his ACL early in the season but is expected to make a full recovery. - Because newly hired general manager Joe Schoen views contract restructures as a “last resort,” more cut candidate will likely be asked to accept pay cuts if they want to stick around. And if not, those players may be outright released. - Other cut candidates include wide receiver Darius Slayton, center Nick Gates, tight end Kaden Smith and punter Riley Dixon. - Schoen has publicly stated he wants to clear upwards of $40 million in space this offseason, and has already released tight end Kyle Rudolph and running back Devontae Booker in an effort to reach that goal. - - List - - Making the case for and against the Giants trading Saquon Barkley - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Giants Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Giants Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
