The New York Giants have asked wide receiver Sterling Shepard to take a significant pay cut in order to return in 2022. And as it turns out, Shepard may be somewhat receptive to that request. - Jordan Raanan of ESPN reports that Shepard is open to a return, but with a small caveat. He’d prefer to settle on a middle ground pay cut as opposed to ending up with the veteran minimum. - - Giants have expressed a strong interest in having WR Sterling Shepard return on reworked deal, per sources. Shepard, off torn Achilles, is open to a return. Should be a reasonable middle ground. - The good news: Shepard on pace to return by at least early summer, perhaps earlier. - — Jordan Raanan (@JordanRaanan) March 4, 2022 - - - Shepard is arguably the Giants’ best all-around receiver when healthy, but that has been a consistent issue throughout his career. He’s close personal friends with quarterback Daniel Jones and running back Saquon Barkley, and one of the team’s most reliable targets when on the field. - Shepard is currently on the books for $8.475 million in 2022, which results in a cap hit of $12.495. He has two years remaining in total on his four-year, $41 million deal that was signed in 2019. - - List - - Making the case for and against the Giants trading Saquon Barkley - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Giants Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Giants Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
