The New York Giants met with Oregon edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux on Friday at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, and they gave him quite the hard time. - Those aren’t just rumors — those are the exact words used by Thibodeaux to explain the interview. And he wasn’t mad about it. - “I’ve talked to the Giants, we had a great interview,” Thibodeaux said. “They were kind of on me, they were giving me a hard time, but I felt like it was like that big brother moment where they give you a hard time because they’re interested in you and they like you. For me, just showing them that I’m really a guy, I grew up in a big city so a big city is nothing new to me, right?” - Specifically, the Giants pressed Thibodeaux on the difficulties of managing big-market media. In this particular case, the biggest market media with the most influence in the country — the New York media. - “I mean, just giving me a hard time, like when you bring up what’s gonna happen if I’m not the star coming in, five games in if I don’t have a sack this is what they’re going to be talking about,” Thibodeaux said. “The media’s gonna be down on me, everybody’s gonna be — I’m gonna be in the doghouse, how am I gonna handle that?” - It’s a fair question. If the Giants were to select Thibodeaux and he doesn’t make an immediate impact, it wouldn’t even take five weeks before he were called a “bust.” Fans should be criticizing general manager Joe Schoen from the armchair and any attempt to defend Thibodeaux would be met with swift judgement. - “I let them know I’ve been in the media since my sophomore year of high school. So I’ve been trained for this my whole life and I know that most of it is entertainment, right? So I’m not really worried because whatever happens between the four walls of the team and the organization is what’s gonna dictate the future and if I have five bad games we’re gonna focus on that next week, how we’re gonna dominate the team that’s next,” he said. - That’s the only correct answer. - Thibodeaux came off really well during his media availability and you can imagine teams felt similarly during their interviews. Whether or not it was enough to sell the Giants, however… Well, that remains to be seen. - - List - - Making the case for and against the Giants trading Saquon Barkley - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Giants Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Giants Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
