Former New York Giants offensive lineman Shane Olivea, who was with the team in 2008, has died at the age of 40. - Olivea’s former teammate and NFL vice president of football development, Roman Oben, shared the unfortunate news on social media. - - Very sad to hear the news of my former teammate Shane Olivea. He would spend the first four seasons of his career with the team, starting in 57 of 60 games played. He was instrumental in helping LaDainian Tomlinson break the NFL’s single-season touchdown record in 2006. - Following his time with the Chargers, the Cedarhurst, New York native signed with the Giants in July of 2008. However, Olivea suffered a back injury during the offseason and was placed on IR that August. He was later released with an injury settlement. - After a couple years out of football, Olivea signed with the Florida Tuskers (later named the Virginia Destroyers) of the UFL in 2010.
