Headed into free agency, the New York Giants were heavily tied to Mitchell Trubisky as someone who might come in and be the backup to quarterback Daniel Jones. - Trubisky’s ties to the Giants made obvious sense because of his time in Buffalo with Brian Daboll. But things didn’t pan out. - On Monday, during the league’s legal tampering period, news broke that Trubisky was headed to Pittsburgh to sign with the Steelers. The Steelers, of course, have a need at quarterback following the retirement of Ben Roethlisberger. - One former Giant was certainly happy the Giants did not land Trubisky. - With the Giants missing out on Trubisky, it remains clear that New York is committed to Jones, at least for 2022. However, if the last few years have proven anything, it’s that the Giants need to have a viable backup. - As Big Blue continues to search for a quarterback behind Jones in free agency, it appears they are targeting a mobile quarterback as their backup. - - The Giants are in the market for a mobile veteran free agent quarterback, per sources. Trubisky fit that bill. Available options are Tyrod Taylor, Case Keenum, Jacoby Brissett and Marcus Mariota. Expect them to pivot now in that direction. - — Jordan Raanan (@JordanRaanan) March 14, 2022 - - - Another option for the Giants could have been Teddy Bridgewater but like Trubisky, Bridgewater also agreed to terms on Monday. He will be the backup quarterback for the Miami Dolphins. - With two quarterbacks off the board, the Giants will look at what is left to fill the void they have at backup quarterback.
