Following the retirement of general manager Dave Gettleman and the termination of head coach Joe Judge, a major overhaul is on tap for the New York Giants. In the coming weeks, they will hire a new GM who will have a hand in hiring a new head coach. And that head coach will subsequently work to build their own staff. That means holdovers like special teams coordinator Thomas McGaughey and defensive coordinator Patrick Graham will eventually be sent packing. They’re all likely to land on their feet, however. McGaughey is already expected to interview with the Carolina Panthers, while Graham is reportedly drawing a little interest from the Minnesota Vikings.New York Giants defensive coordinator Patrick Graham, a Yale graduate and former New England Patriots linebackers coach, is highly regarded in NFL circles for his coaching acumen and leadership and is on the radar of the Minnesota Vikings and other NFL teams, per sources— Aaron Wilson (@AaronWilson_NFL) January 14, 2022Graham drew some head coaching interest during last year’s cycle, but ultimately turned down the New York Jets and opted to sign an extension with the Giants instead.Graham insisted that coaching the Giants’ defense was his “dream job” and being employed alongside his best friend — Joe Judge — only made it that much sweeter. But with the writing already on the wall earlier this year, Graham left open the possibility of leaving New York for a head coaching position.“It’s so hard, those jobs,” Graham told reporters prior to a Week 18 game. “Obviously — I mean, not obviously, but the idea is to one day be a head coach. A lot of us that get in this business want to do that. Again, I can’t really speak on it right now because whatever the situation is, but if someone wants to talk to me, they want to talk to me. I’m sure I’ll consider it.”There’s no reason for Graham to balk now. Judge is out, expectations are that he will not return and obviously there’s some interest out there. It seems like an end Graham was always destined for, so why not now?ListGiants go heavy on defense in latest Draft Wire mockEmailSign upLike this article?Sign up for the Giants Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morningAn error has occuredPlease re-enter your email address. Thanks for signing up!You'll now receive the top Giants Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
