The New York Giants have shored up their general manager situation, hiring Joe Schoen on Friday, and have now moved onto their head coaching search. - Already, Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll has been interviewed and Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier is next in line on Saturday. After that, the Giants will reportedly turn their attention to former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores. - Although Daboll appears to have the upper hand due to his connection to Schoen, Giants co-owner John Mara personally reached out to Flores and told him he’s a serious candidate. - In the event the Giants do hire Flores, who is he likely to bring along with him? Well, Art Stapleton of USA TODAY suggests eyes be kept on Bill O’Brien. - - One name I've heard mentioned as an OC possibility if Brian Flores were to land as head coach with Giants: - Bill O'Brien. - Not the only choice, obviously, and no guarantee that it would happen, but names are always fun. - And OC is absolutely a big part of Flores' candidacy imo. - — Art Stapleton (@art_stapleton) January 21, 2022 - - - O’Brien is an interesting potential option for a multitude of reasons. His name will, of course, set off some alarm bells for how poorly he handled the Houston Texans’ general manager job. Some will also question his career as head coach despite posting a 52-48 record with four playoff appearances over six-plus seasons. - O’Brien also previously served as offensive coordinator of the New England Patriots in 2011 — the same year they lost to the Giants in Super Bowl XLVI. That season, the Pats finished second overall in offense. - But beyond just being a lightning rod, what makes O’Brien’s name interesting is his connection to quarterback Deshaun Watson — the same Watson that Flores reportedly wants to team up with at his next destination. The pair would likely push for a trade of Watson, creating an interesting dynamic in East Rutherford right of the gate. - We’re a long way off from having those conversations, however. Flores, although a serious candidate, is far from a shoo-in. And then there’s no guarantee he’d offer the job to O’Brien or that O’Brien would take it. But it would certainly be an interesting scenario, wouldn’t it? - Let us know down below in the comments section how you would feel if the Giants hired a Flores-O’Brien tandem. - - List - - 15 head coach candidates Giants could consider - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Giants Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Giants Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
