Joe Schoen, the man the New York Giants hired on Friday to replace general manager Dave Gettleman, has a two-decade record of success in personnel departments across the NFL. - One particular stop along the way was in Miami, where he worked under the great Bill Parcells from 2008-2010. Schoen was a national scout and Parcells was the vice president of football operations. - Parcells believes the Giants made the right choice in Schoen to head up their latest reboot. - “I like Joe,” Parcells told the New York Post. “Having worked with him, I think he’s a very good evaluator of talent in the NFL, and he’s a serious personnel man. . . he’s very, very conscientious.” - Schoen is one of many players and coaches influenced by Parcells over the past four decades. He has mutual respect for his former boss. - “When you’re around him, he’s always coaching,” Schoen once said of the former two-time Super Bowl-winning coach. “I was a national scout at the time, didn’t know him from Adam, and we’d be in a meeting and he’d say, ‘You know what Tom Landry used to tell me?’ I’m like, ‘Oh my God! Tom Landry, Bill Parcells, and he’s about to tell me something that they talked about?’ - “I was always typing stuff, writing stuff down. He gave so much information. It was just awesome to be around him. You know he’s a Hall of Famer, you know he’s one of the best ever, but then when you’re around him, you see how genuine he is as a person. He treated us all the same, he enjoyed being around us.” - - List - - 15 head coach candidates Giants could consider - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Giants Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Giants Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
