POR Season Outlook with Erik Gundersen; ATL Season Outlook with Brad Rowland / Click to subscribe via RSS feed or iTunes. - - Erik Gundersen of Locked on Blazers joins for the Portland Trail Blazers Season Outlook. We look at whether the Blazers can sustain their success with Jusuf Nurkic in the lineup last season. We also hit on potential breakout and regression candidates, playing time and lineup issues, key questions for success this year, and give our predictions for the season. Then Brad Rowland of Locked on Hawks and Peachtree Hoops gives the same treatment for the Atlanta Hawks. How far along is Taurean Prince, how much will John Collins play this year, and how long will it be until the Hawks make the playoffs again, among the usual questions. - - With host Nate Duncan (@NateDuncanNBA). 80 - Jusuf Nurkic Forever: The Portland Trail Blazers Preview with Michael Brock / Few teams in the NBA are as tough to forecast ahead of the 2017-18 season as the Portland Trail Blazers. They won just 41 games last year and are not appreciably better on paper, but their 20-tilt tear with Jusuf Nurkic suggests they're on to something. - Can that small-sample detonation hold? - After all, the Blazers' roster setup is officially wonky. They added to their dizzying number of frontcourt volume on draft night and pawned off Allen Crabbe onto the Brooklyn Nets. Though any team led by Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum will never want for offense, the Blazers' spacing feels iffy. - Could they experience regression on the more glamorous end if Maurice Harkless and Al-Farouq Aminu fail once again to shoot league-average clips from three-point range? How will they structure their frontcourt pecking order? Will Nurkic start beside Noah Vonleh? Have they given up on Meyers Leonard? Where does Evan Turner fit into all this, assuming he factors in at all? - Equally important: Can McCollum and Lillard coax Carmelo Anthony into waiving his no-trade clause for Portland? Or is this the roster that the Blazers will be married to at the start of the regular season? And if it's the latter, do they have enough juice to clinch a playoff berth in the brutal Western Conference? - NBA Math's own Michael Brock (@MichaelBrock_) joins Hardwood Knocks to break it all down, deliver his favorite Melo trade hypothetical and tell us whether he believes the Blazers are fit for a return to the playoffs in 2018. - As always, be sure to subscribe to and rate Hardwood Knocks on iTunes. The great best players debate / Sam Amick and Jeff Zillgitt talk about who should be on the Eastern and Western Conference All-Star rosters. The guys start out with who should’ve been starting, but didn’t get the nod. They then break down who should be on the reserves on the East and West teams. They start with the East and an obvious pick in Kyle Lowry. They then look at some who should be in and some who are long shots. Does the poor season in New York hurt the chances of Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis? They go out west and discuss some difficult picks into guys who should be on the team but might not make it. They discuss if Portland’s step back this season hurts Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum’s chances. After they talk All-Stars, they discuss the state of the top of the league coming out of the big San Antonio Spurs win against the Cleveland Cavaliers. They talk about what we learned about those teams coming out of that game.
