Respected as a gifted hitter and beloved by contemporaries, 20 Hall of Fame seasons in San Diego earned Tony Gwynn the nickname "Mr. Padre." The 15-time All-Star had a career .338 average, 19th all-time and the highest by any Major Leaguer since Ted Williams, as well as 3,141 hits. With a National League-record eight batting titles, the annual NL award now bears his name.
