The Ottawa Senators again gave in to financial problems, this time moving to St. Louis, where the team was renamed the Eagles.
Tommy Gorman was fired as the Chicago Black Hawks' coach, even though the team had won the Stanley Cup the year before. He was hired by the Montreal Maroons and he promptly made a trade for Lionel Conacher, who had played for him in Chicago. Conacher was appointed team captain.
Lionel's brother, Charlie, led the NHL in scoring and his Toronto Maple Leafs finished first in the Canadian Division, ahead of the Maroons, while the Boston Bruins barely edged Chicago for the top spot in the American Division.
Toronto beat Boston in the match-up of first-place teams and the Maroons got into the finals by beating the Black Hawks and Rangers. Then they not only beat the Maple Leafs, they swept them in the Stanley Cup finals. Gorman became the first coach to win consecutive Stanley Cups with different teams.
