John Thornton is a former American football defensive tackle who played in the National Football League (NFL) for nine seasons. He was born on February 17, 1976, in Dublin, Ohio, and attended Dublin Coffman High School, where he played football and was named the Ohio Defensive Player of the Year in 1993.

After high school, Thornton attended the University of West Virginia, where he played college football for the Mountaineers. He was a standout defensive lineman and was named to the All-Big East Conference team in 1997 and 1998. In his senior year, he was also named a second-team All-American by the Associated Press.

In 1999, Thornton was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the second round of the NFL Draft. He played for the Titans for four seasons, from 1999 to 2002, and was a key member of their defense. In 2000, he helped the Titans reach the Super Bowl, where they lost to the St. Louis Rams.

After retiring from football, Thornton became a successful businessman and entrepreneur. He founded a company called ThunderTech, which provides marketing and advertising services to businesses. He also serves on the board of directors for several organizations, including the Ohio State University Alumni Association and the Dublin Chamber of Commerce.
