Ryan Succop is a former American football placekicker who played in the National Football League (NFL) for over a decade. He began his football career in high school, where he played both football and soccer. He was a standout kicker and earned All-State honors in both sports.
Succop went on to play college football at the University of South Carolina, where he was a four-year starter and set several school records. He was also named to the All-SEC team twice and was a finalist for the Lou Groza Award, which is given to the nation's top college kicker.
In 2009, Succop was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the seventh round of the NFL Draft. He quickly became the team's starting kicker and set a franchise record for most consecutive field goals made. He played for the Chiefs for five seasons before being released in 2014.
Succop then signed with the Tennessee Titans, where he played for the next six seasons. He continued to be a reliable kicker, setting a franchise record for most consecutive field goals made and earning a Pro Bowl selection in 2018.
In 2020, Succop signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and played a key role in the team's Super Bowl victory. He made all four of his field goal attempts in the game, including a 52-yarder, and scored 10 points in total.
After the 2020 season, Succop became a free agent and announced his retirement from the NFL in March 2021. He finishes his career with 1,159 points scored, which ranks 47th all-time in NFL history.
Throughout his career, Succop was known for his accuracy and consistency as a kicker. He made over 82% of his field goal attempts and over 98% of his extra point attempts. He was also a respected leader in the locker room and was named a team captain multiple times.
Off the field, Succop was involved in several charitable organizations and was named the Titans' Walter Payton Man of the Year in 2019. He also holds a degree in finance from the University of South Carolina and has been involved in several business ventures throughout his career.
