The Tennessee Titans will have a grand total of 32 of their own free agents to make decisions on during the 2022 offseason. - The official start of free agency is on March 16 when the new league year begins, but the legal tampering period (when teams can begin talking to pending free agents) begins on March 14. - Seven of the Titans’ 32 free agents are either restricted or exclusive rights free agents (RFA). Here’s definitions for both of those terms, per NFL.com: - Exclusive rights free agent (ERFA): Any player with fewer than three accrued seasons and an expired contract. If his original team offers him a one-year contract at the league minimum (based on his credited seasons), the player cannot negotiate with other teams. - Restricted free agent (RFA): A player with three accrued seasons and an expired contract. RFAs are free to negotiate and sign with any team, but their original team can offer them one of various qualifying offers (“tenders”) that come with the right of first refusal and/or draft-pick compensation. If the tender is withdrawn by a team, the RFA becomes an unrestricted free agent. - Now, the full list of Titans free agents for the upcoming offseason (note: all players are unrestricted free agents unless otherwise noted with “RFA” or “ERFA”).
