After the debacle that was Ryan Tannehill in the Tennessee Titans’ divisional round loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, the team could be in the market for a quarterback this offseason. - While Tennessee was unable to secure one of the big names on the open market, they can still add a high-quality backup in free agency, or a signal-caller of the future in the 2022 NFL draft to try and upgrade the position. - And CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin has Tennessee doing the latter in his recent mock draft. Benjamin has the Titans trading up from No. 26 overall to No. 19 overall with the Philadelphia Eagles to select quarterback Matt Corral. - “Ryan Tannehill is in Tennessee, but the Titans may very well have hit their ceiling with him under center,” Benjamin wrote. “They take a page out of the Chiefs’ playbook, moving up ahead of the Steelers for a potential long-term starter with a veteran already in place. Corral’s mobility adds upside to their run-heavy attack.” - Benjamin doesn’t list the trade terms, but chances are it would include at least one more of Tennessee’s picks, and likely one from the third or fourth rounds. - Corral would need time to develop, but that’s something Tennessee can afford with Tannehill locked-in under center for 2022. Here’s more on the intriguing prospect, per The Draft Network’s Drae Harris: - “He shows good athleticism when maneuvering outside of the pocket. In the run game, he can convert critical third downs with his legs but clearly wants to deliver it from the pocket if he can. He did a much better job in 2021 of discerning when to use his legs. Defenses must account for him in the zone-read aspect of the game, as he demonstrates the ability to “pull it” from the mesh and threaten the defense. In the passing game, he is highly effective and productive in Ole Miss’ offense. He’s led a high-powered Rebel offense in 2021 while completing 68% of his passes en route to throwing for 3,333 yards and 20 TDs. However, the area he has shown the most growth in is his ability to take care of the football. He eliminated the multi-turnover games that plagued him in 2020, only accounting for four interceptions to date. Hes demonstrates situational awareness over the course of the game with regard to time and score. He throws with pinpoint accuracy between the numbers and in short-to-intermediate situations. While some cold-weather teams may have reservations about his ability to drive it down the field with his sufficient-level arm strength, overall, he has proven this year that he could have success in an offense with NFL concepts.” - While this draft class isn’t considered a good one for quarterbacks, Corral is one of the best in it, so he should be on Tennessee’s radar. - - RelatedTitans, Maxx Williams named a perfect match in free agency by PFFTennessee Titans' adjusted salary cap for the 2022 seasonReport: Ex-Titans CB Malcolm Butler visiting with Texans - - List - - 6 TEs Tennessee Titans should target in free agency - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Titans Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Titans Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
