The Tennessee Titans entered the offseason strapped for cash in terms of cap space, and nothing has changed after the first two weeks of free agency. - According to Spotrac, the Titans are projected to have $2.34 million in top 51 cap space, ranking 30th in the NFL. Only the New York Giants ($1.89 million) and San Francisco 49ers ($1.86 million) have a lower total. - In all, the Titans are about $9.8 million over the cap, but the top 51 number is what’s important for now. Per our friends at Falcons Wire, here’s a good explanation of how things work in that regard. - Per the collective bargaining agreement, teams must count their top 51 players with the biggest salary cap hits toward the year’s salary cap. This is then expanded to all 53 players on the active roster once the preseason ends. - The Titans will be getting a bit more salary cap relief after June 1, when wide receiver Julio Jones’ salary comes off the books. That will add $9.5 million in cap space, which is nearly enough to get Tennessee to even overall. - However, the Titans will also have to sign their 2022 NFL draft class, which could have as many as seven members, and perhaps make more signings to get their offseason roster up to the 90-man limit. - Of course, the Titans still have the option of restructuring contracts — like Derrick Henry’s, for example — to free up more space. Regardless, we wouldn’t expect any major signings moving forward. - Redemption: How far will Titans go in 2022? - Powered By PickUp - - RelatedTitans' Jon Robinson: Keeping Jeffery Simmons is a top priorityTitans select Kenyon Green in Bucky Brooks' latest mock draftRams' Sean McVay heaps praise on new Titans WR Robert Woods - - List - - 9 AFC South stories from last week for Titans fans to know - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Email - - - - - Sign up - - - - - - - - Like this article? - Sign up for the Titans Wire email newsletter to get our top stories in your inbox every morning - - - - An error has occured - - - Please re-enter your email address. - - - - - - Thanks for signing up! - - - You'll now receive the top Titans Wire stories each day directly in your inbox.
