For unknown reasons, it appears that the Athletic of Philadelphia, clearly the strongest team in the NA, never played a series for the championship. By 1868, the association had several hundred teams. Most subpar and short-lived teams are omitted here. Standings were determined by number of total wins, rather than winning percentage. Historical records of game results and player statistics may be missing or incomplete.
